For many years a Big Boy franchisee, in 2001, Frisch’s became the exclusive owner of the Big Boy trademark in Indiana, Kentucky, and most of Ohio and Tennessee, and is no longer affiliated with Big Boy Restaurant Group. In July 2019, there were 118 restaurants in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio.

At its peak in 1989, there were over 240 Bob’s locations throughout the United States , most belonging to Marriott. By August 2019, only five Bob’s Big Boy Restaurants remain in operation, all in Southern California. Those five locations are in Burbank (Toluca Lake), Calimesa, Downey, Norco, and Northridge.
It became a local chain under that name and nationally under the Big Boy name, franchised by Robert C. Wian Enterprises. Marriott Corporation bought Big Boy in 1967. Thus Frisch’s is no longer a franchisee, but Big Boy Restaurant Group and Frisch’s are now independent co-registrants of the Big Boy name and trademark.
The Big Boy restaurant chain has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The franchise owner, Elias Brothers Corp, plans to sell the chain of 455 restaurants to an investor. Big Boy statues across the US appear to be safe for now, and are probably responsible for any brand value the troubled chain retains.
The difference is the Big Boy is the original and the Big Mac is the copy. There is some confusion about that because both have been around seemingly forever but the Big Boy was definitely there ahead of McDonald’s. The Big Mac was created because McDonald’s lacked a signature burger like the Big Boy .

While the name Big Boy will stay, the original rosy-cheeked mascot will not. The change is part of a campaign for the restaurant chain’s new “ The Dolly Chicken Sandwich.” Dolly is the star of this new menu option, just as Big Boy was the start of the famous Double Decker Sandwich.
(WOOD) — The red plaid overall laden Big Boy statue will no longer be the face of Big Boy restaurants starting Monday. Though the name will remain, the Big Boy mascot will be replaced with a girl named Dolly.
