You may eat light solid foods up to 6 hours before your scheduled arrival time. A light meal is: juice or coffee with milk or cream. 1 piece of toast or 1 bowl of oatmeal or hot cereal.

Have a light . breakfast of tea/coffee with toast/cereal before 7am and then do not eat after 7am. You may drink water till 11am. If you are given a different time to come into hospital for morning or afternoon surgery , you must still follow the fasting times above.
Makeup, perfume and hairspray should not be worn the day of surgery . Bathing, creams, lotions, deodorants . Please shower or bathe the night before your surgery . Your surgeon may request bathing with a special soap; please follow their instructions.
Patients who are having an outpatient procedure with anesthesia must arrange for a responsible adult to take them home and stay with them for 24 hours. It is very normal to feel anxious before having an operation , especially the day or two beforehand, which are often spent in the hospital preparing for the operation . Sometimes people have day surgery , where they go to the hospital or practice, have the procedure and then go home on the same day.
This is done as a precautionary measure. If there is excess water in your system during a surgery , it can lead to pulmonary aspiration. This means if your stomach consists of any water , it will enter your lungs and potentially block the airways and cause major infections such as pneumonia.
It is best to stop drinking caffeine two days before surgery in order to avoid headaches that you may have when you stop drinking it. One the day of surgery as well as the next day , you should stay away from caffeine as it increases blood pressure and can increase bruising.
