Brown the sausages Plus it means I can drain off any fat from the sausages before putting them in the slow cooker . If you have a slow cooker that you can put on the hob then you can do everything directly in that. If not, just grill, or lightly fry them in a pan. 1 Answer. There’s no health issue here, the sausages will be cooked enough to be safe. The reason you fry off the sausages first is that you make the casings more edible, get flavor from maillard reactions and browning, and maybe get rid of some of the fat (if you discard the fat that comes out of the sausages that is)
Thaw if frozen ; cook in crockpot on low for 5-6 hours or high for 3-4 hours; until sausage is cooked all the way through. (Note-don’t worry if your sausage isn’t all the way thawed. It can also cook from frozen , it might just take a little longer.) Serve with sliced Italian bread and enjoy!

Sausages can also be baked in the oven (a good method to use if you ‘re cooking something else in the oven ). Preheat the oven to 190°C, gas mark 5. Place the sausages on a baking tray and cook for 20-25 minutes, until thoroughly cooked, turning halfway through the cooking time .
Set the air fryer to 400°F and then cook the sausages until they’re well-browned on the outside and cooked through in the middle if you cut into them. It takes about 8-12 minutes, depending on the thickness of the sausages and how many you have in the basket.
