They serve two types of patties – what they call smoked sausage and their other is turkey sausage . I can’t find this smoked patty to buy anywhere. I have written to Cracker Barrel to encourage them to make to sell retail but they just say they will take it under advisement.

In fact, the first sausages date back to a region called Mesopotamia . This area roughly equates to where modern day Iraq , Kuwait and some of Saudi Arabia are today. The dominant culture within this region was the Sumerians. It is these guys who take credit for inventing the sausage at some point around 3100BC.
The modern word ” sausage ” is derived from the Latin ~salsus~, meaning salted. The term was probably originally applied to cured or salted meat generally. In the days of old people did not have refrigeration to preserve their meat and so making sausage was a way of overcoming this problem.
