The beach and boardwalk are open all year round (although lifeguards are only on duty from Memorial Day to Labor Day) and Nathan’s Hot Dogs and the New York Aquarium are open almost every day of the year. During the week, rides and attractions may open at noon and run until the late evening.
However, Coney Island proper (meaning the park and the surrounding areas ) is very safe and there is police and MTA staff presence. The kids will have a lot of fun and it’s a different type of atmosphere.

After riding the subway for an hour to visit Coney Island , I was so disappointed. The beach is disgustingly dirty . There are wrappers, cups, bottles and all sorts of debris all over the beach . And the green seaweed in the water is so thick it covers you.

The community is very safe , they have their own security/police , there’s a gaurd at the front gate that you have to check-in with if your visiting, or they have a speed pass if your residing there, ask the landlord for one.

Beaches are open from Memorial Day weekend through September 7, 2020. During beach season, lifeguards are on duty daily, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Swimming is prohibited when lifeguards are not on duty and in closed sections. Closed sections are marked with signs and/or red flags.
